Executive Summit: Healthy Organizational Culture Through Transformational Leadership

The most inexpensive way to make your library a success is to have a strong and positive organizational culture. The key is knowing what good organizational health is and how it plays a crucial role in shaping behavior in the library. How can leaders identify and transform their organizational culture?

MLA is pleased to welcome leadership consultant John McCann to facilitate a symposium on transformational leadership. This workshop is for directors, supervisors and other library professionals who wish to further their leadership skills. A cost-effective strategy to achieving success in the workplace is to promote a robust and positive working environment. McCann’s interactive approach encourages group audience participation to discover solutions to situations that confront all libraries. Learn how to develop cross-organizational engagement within in your institution, strengthen your leadership abilities and acquire the knowledge on how to form a healthy, effective and sustainable organizational culture.

Featured Speaker

John McCann, President, Partners in Performance

John McCann is an educator, facilitator and consultant. His expertise is in leadership education, strategy development and innovation.

McCann launched Partners in Performance in 2008. As President of the company, he serves as lead consultant on a variety of interesting and intriguing projects including the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Detroit Institute for Arts, Boys and Girls Club national headquarters, Dance/USA, League of American Orchestras, and the National Guild for Community Arts Education.

McCann designed and now serves as lead faculty and facilitator for the annual Community Arts Education Leadership Institute funded by American Express and the Emerging Leaders Program for the League of American Orchestras. Beyond the arts, McCann designed and now teaches Creating a Learning Organization, Team Learning, and The Leader as Facilitator for the Central Intelligence Agency, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the Defense Intelligence Agency.

He is co-author of the Board Excellence Handbook, published by the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations, and Beyond Survival, Devising Strategies in an Uncertain World and Leadership as Creativity, both published by the National Endowment for the Arts.

He holds a BFA degree in communications and theatre from the University of North Carolina/Greensboro, and an MFA in administration from Virginia Tech. His lifelong learning includes System Dynamics for Senior Managers at MIT, and Benefits and Challenges of Diversity for Decision Making: A Symposium, at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

McCann is co-founder and a board member for EmcArts, a New York City based social enterprise and also serves on the board of the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice at Duke University. His pro bono work includes the Clinton Global Initiative, Louisiana Recovery and Rebuilding Commission, and the Women’s Regional Network, an assembly of peacemakers working in the border regions of India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

Event Policies

Cancellation

Cancellations must be received in writing by email no later than five (5) business days prior to the program in order to qualify for a refund. A $35.00 processing fee will be applied to refunds for workshops. Within five (5) business days of the event, no refund will be issued. No-shows will be invoiced.

MLA Initiated Cancellation: If a Michigan Library Association professional development workshop, conference, webinar, or other training session is cancelled due to low registration or inclement weather, participants will be notified and fees, if applicable, will be refunded.

Consent

Registration and attendance at, or participation in, MLA meetings or other activities constitutes an agreement by the registration to the use and distribution of the registrants or attendees' image or voice in photographs, videotapes, electronic reproductions of such events and activities by MLA.
