MLA is pleased to welcome leaders hip consultant John McCann to facilitate a symposium on transformational le adership. This workshop is for directors, supervisors and other library pro fessionals who wish to further their leadership skills. A cost-effective st rategy to achieving success in the workplace is to promote a robust and pos itive working environment. McCann’s interactive approach encourages group a udience participation to discover solutions to situations that confront all libraries. John McCann, President, Partners in Performa nce
John McCann is an educator, facilitator and consultant. His expertise is in leadership education, strategy development and innovati on.
McCann launched Partners in Performance in 2008. As President of the company, he serves as lead consultant on a variety of i nteresting and intriguing projects including the Birmingham Civil Rights In stitute, Detroit Institute for Arts, Boys and Girls Club national headquart ers, Dance/USA, League of American Orchestras, and the National Guild for C ommunity Arts Education.
McCann designed and now serves as lead facul ty and facilitator for the annual Community Arts Education Leadership Insti tute funded by American Express and the Emerging Leaders Program for the Le ague of American Orchestras. Beyond the arts, McCann designed and now teach es Creating a Learning Organization, Team Learning, and The Leader as Facil itator for the Central Intelligence Agency, Office of the Director of Natio nal Intelligence, and the Defense Intelligence Agency.
He is co-autho r of the Board Excellence Handbook, published by the Maryland Association o f Nonprofit Organizations, and Beyond Survival, Devising Strategies in an U ncertain World and Leadership as Creativity, both published by the National Endowment for the Arts.
He holds a BFA degree in communications and theatre from the University of North Carolina/Greensboro, and an MFA in adm inistration from Virginia Tech. His lifelong learning includes System Dynam ics for Senior Managers at MIT, and Benefits and Challenges of Diversity fo r Decision Making: A Symposium, at the Kennedy School of Government at Harv ard University.
McCann is co-founder and a board member for EmcArts, a New York City based social enterprise and also serves on the board of the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice at Duke University. His pro bono work includes the Clinton Global Initiative, Louisiana Recovery a nd Rebuilding Commission, and the Women’s Regional Network, an assembly of peacemakers working in the border regions of India, Pakistan, and Afghanist an.
