It is essential to mak e sure your library is prepared to serve patrons with disabilities. Ensurin g full access to your library is an important part of customer service and a great way to expand the reach of your library in your community. This int eractive workshop will explore ways your library can be more inclusive to p eople with disabilities and make your library more welcoming to everyone. < /p>
Learn from experts in the field and explore a variety of perspectives provided by representatives from UN Women, American Library Association, U niversity of Michigan, Disability Network Southwest Michigan, and Capital A rea District Libraries.
This webinar will be recorded and available t hrough MLA Connect On Demand.
< p>Participants will learn what an accessibility audit is and how it can be applied to their library.< /p>
Participants will learn strategies they can implement to make their l ibrary more accessible and welcoming to everyone.
Creative strategies and resources for further learning will be shared with participants so tha t they can continue to expand their knowledge.

Max Hornick is a graduate of Western Michigan University and a nationally certified ADA Coordinator (ADA C). They have engaged in disability advocacy for over a decade; while atten ding community college, Max co-founded Mental Illness Support & Advocac y Alliance (MISAA), an organization run by and for students with psychiatri c disabilities. They currently work as a Community Education Specialist for Disability Network Southwest Michigan, where they have been employed since 2018.

Hillary Pearson (she/her/hers) is the Program Manager, Accessibility Services for the Office for Diversity, Literacy, and Outreach Services at t he American Library Association. In this role, Hillary works both internall y with ALA staff and externally with members and partners to advance access ibility goals across the organization. Her previous experience was as the Director of Operations and Access Initiatives at the Harris Theater for Mus ic and Dance, where she spent over 10 years working to improve cultural acc essibility at the venue for artists, renters, and patrons.

Dr. A.H. Monjurul Kabir, a politic al scientist, human rights, rule of law, gender and intersectionality exper t, is Senior Adviser and Global Team Leader for Gender Equality and Disabil ity Inclusion at UN Women HQ in New York. Prior to this, he was Senior Rule of Law Policy Adviser, and Chief of Asia-Pacific Section with UN-Women HQ. Among others, he led the development of UN-Women's approach to inclusive S outh-South and Triangular Cooperation, and Disability Inclusion.
Dr. Kabir authored several books, numerous research articles, blogs, and OP-ED pieces in international journals, newspapers, and opinion portals on a rang e of critical global trends and issues, and holds Ph.D in Politics and Aid Effectiveness with University of Hull, UK.
