Category: Deadlines for Nominations and Applications
The Nominating and Leadership Development Committee is seeking candidates with a variety of professional expertise, cultural backgrounds, spectrum of life experiences, and geographic reach who can help MLA respond to future needs within the library field. As we expand our search beyond the customary networks, we are seeking MLA members representing any type of library, any staff position within the library (not just directors), any size and budget, and in any geographic region of Michigan. Individuals with as many of the following skills as possible are needed: big picture focus/global outlook; change agents; commitment to actively participate and serve for three years; ability to present, persuade and influence; ability to implement a strategic plan; development/fundraising; financial management.
As you consider board candidacy, please keep MLA’s mission front of mind: to lead the advancement of Michigan libraries through advocacy, professional development, and engagement.
Requirements:
- Nominations may be made by the individual interested in serving or another person
- A nominee must be an MLA member or join if selected to run
- Nominees must be willing to serve for a three-year term (July 2026 through June 2029)
- Be prepared to attach your/the nominee’s resume during the application process
- Submit this form by November 6, 2026
Please be aware that all nominations will be reviewed as part of the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee's process, but not all nominations will be on the election ballot. Notification of placement on the election slate (or not) will be made by January 10, 2026. Once the slate is approved by the MLA Board it will be publicized for the 2026 election.
Note: According to the MLA Bylaws Article IV, Section 5, only voting members are eligible to serve as a board member.
