Take Action: Tell the FCC to Save E-Rate

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is considering changes that could reduce or eliminate E-Rate, the federal program that helps libraries and schools afford broadband and Wi-Fi. Without E-Rate, libraries could face difficult choices between maintaining internet access and funding other essential services. The FCC is now accepting public comments.

All public comments are reviewed by agency staff, and the FCC considers the comments when developing final rules. This is our opportunity to share how E-Rate-funded broadband supports local communities. You don’t need to be a policy expert to share a compelling comment—personal stories, local data, and examples of how your community uses library internet access can help FCC decision-makers understand the real-world impact of this program.

The American Library Association (ALA) has provided a template and step-by-step guidance to make submitting your comment easy: Learn how to submit a comment and help #SaveOurERate. Comments are due Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
